Webinar: Digital Humanitarians: What Are They and What Are They Up To?
Cyberweek 2015: Digital Humanitarians: What Are They and What Are T... from Bryan J Hanson on Vimeo.
Webinar Description:
This session will explore the emergence of projects that mobilize online volunteers from across the globe who freely share their time and energy responding to humanitarian disasters. Drawing mainly on Patrick Meier's new book Digital Humanitarians: How Big Data is Changing the Face of Humanitarian Response, we'll look at various crowdsourcing solutions that help international relief agencies sort through large bodies of SMS messages, twitter and facebook posts and satellite and drone images to improve post-disaster and post-conflict relief efforts.

Thanks to everyone who attended my session today. As I noted at the end of the session, I believe we could do with more discussion around paths toward greater integration of conflict resolution and ODR people and concepts and that of the crisis and humanitarian development community. Surely there are crowd-sourcing approaches that ODR folks would get behind that will further the quest for constructive conflict management. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Wonderful, thanks for sharing the vids Bill. They exemplify these tools in action very well. It is amazing where we are going in terms of this type of mapping. Considering the context of the webinar we saw this morning on the climate change debate, it is likely going to be necessary to have these programs in full gear.
