Nebraska Mediation Competition Looking for Judges

Nebraska Law College is hosting a regional competition of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Representation in Mediation Competition on March 9.  Nebraska Law is looking for attorneys, mediators, and others familiar with the mediation process to help judge the competition.  We are looking for judges in both the morning (8:00 - 12:30) session and the afternoon (1:15 - 5:00) session.  Breakfast/lunch is provided.  If interested, e-mail kblankley2@unl.edu.

In the competition, law students play the roles of attorneys and clients in a mediation setting. The competition improves the students’ skills in acting as advocates in the mediation forum and in effectively negotiating in mediation with the help of a third-party neutral.

Competition judges evaluate and score the quality of representation by the student teams and give feedback directly to the students at the end of the round.

Competition mediators use the facilitative mediation style in serving as mediators for the simulation, with the students playing the roles of lawyers and clients.

Thanks in advance!
