NAFCM Announces Dayton Mediation Center’s June Zeis as Second Recipient of “Outstanding Volunteer Award”

Palm Springs, California (May 1, 2014) — On May 1, 2014 NAFCM announced its second ever NAFCM Outstanding Volunteer Award Winner.  The nomination process allowed community mediation centers from across the country to nominate outstanding volunteers.   NAFCM received many outstanding nominations for this new quarterly award which recognizes the significant work which volunteers provide to create the positive impacts of community mediation across the country.

NAFCM Executive Director Matt Phillips stated, “It was amazing to see the positive response that this new program is getting from community mediation centers across the country.  There are over 400 centers across the country and this program hopes to end having these community-changing, volunteer mediators be one of the country’s greatest kept secrets.”

NAFCM assembled a committee of community mediation leaders from across the country that was given the task of selecting the Outstanding Volunteer Award winner.  The committee will meet once a quarter to deliberate the decision of the quarterly award winner.

The second recipient of the award was June Zeis who is a volunteer mediator with the Dayton Mediation Center in Dayton, Ohio.  NAFCM Board member and Ad-hoc committee chair D.G. Mawn commented, “Our committee was very impressed with the almost 2 decades of passion and commitment that June brought to the Center.  June’s nomination noted that she really helps do it all at center from reception to mediation and does it with an incomparable energy.”

June’s nomination noted, “June's strengths include how committed, passionate, and vibrant she is.  June has been a faithful volunteer for almost 20 years and during this time she has been at the center EVERY Saturday, which is our busiest day for mediations.  She does it all from creating our center’s mediator certificates to acting in our latest elder care commercial!”

As the winner of the NAFCM Outstanding Volunteer Award, June will receive the following:

1) A framed certificate commemorating the recognition;

2) Copy of Ken Cloke's new book, "The Dance of Opposites: Explorations in Mediation, Dialogue and Conflict Resolution Systems Design";

3) An opportunity to meet and be interviewed as the NAFCM Outstanding Volunteer Award winner by Dave Hilton of the Conflict Specialist Show; and,

4) An announcement will be made to the entire NAFCM community as well as a press release created with the announcement that can be sent to local media and posted on website.

Every quarter, NAFCM will announce a new Outstanding Volunteer Award winner.  Nominations for future awards can be made through NAFCM’s website at www.nafcm.org ;
