I read an interesting article on cnn.com today discussing a program for imprisoned parents to connect with their children.  "Connections" is a prison-based Head Start program which, in Michigan, works with female prisoners who have not been convicted of violent crimes or sexual offenses.  The children of the prisoners receive lessons while visiting their parents and with their caregivers outside of prison; whereas, the imprisoned parents set personal goals, find ways to be involved, and learn parenting skills, such as discipline.  Read more in detail about the program here: http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/11/29/mich.headstart.prison/index.ht...

I thought that this would be an interesting concept applied to parents and children outside of the prison context.  What if schools offered these programs on a regular basis or as part of a co-op seminar between the schools and parents?  Something to think about.
