Hi ADRhub Book Club.
Thank you to everyone for contributing to a great first week.
The discussions have proved to be very insightful. I am always amazed at everyone's thoughts, opinions, and questions.
For anyone just joining us, please feel free to jump right in.
We welcome you and are excited for you share with us your thoughts.
This week we will be discussing chapters 3 and 4. As a reminder, the questions I write are only a starting point but in no way is limited to what we can discuss. At anytime, please ask your own questions or thoughts.
These chapters had a lot of content, so my questions in no way hit on some very important points, so please post those questions or thoughts that you have been thinking of.
"Extraordinary talent" Is an all-purpose justification for tolerating, pampering, and kissing up to these destructive jerks. Our societal standard appears to be: If you are a really big winner, you can get away with being a really big asshole (53-53).
What is your thoughts on this statement? Are we a society that embraces these jerks especially if they have "extraordinary talents"? If so, from your perspective, why?
Is there any examples that anyone can give where these people with "extraordianry talents" we should tolerate? Is there ever a time when we want them included in our environment? Or should it be a zero tolerance policy for these jerks, talented or not.
In Chapter 4, How to stop your "Inner Jerk" from coming out, Sutton discusses the environments that we are in. Working under or with people that are jerks often became jerks, calling it "emotional contagion".
Has anyone witnessed this happening? How can you counteract this? If it has happened to you personally, how did you stop your "inner jerk" from coming out? What skills or tools did you use?
Looking forward to a wonderful "week 2".............
Lynsee
