Ahhh, the wonderful band-aid!

My reflection on this week's readings and the concept of band-aids reminds me, as a mediator, detective, and conflict specialist to do what I can.  Am I trying to save the world- sure?

That said, I am a true new yorker and realize it's not going to happen.  So does this create a cognitive dissonance for me?

No, I do what I can.  I am on a journey with no finish line.  I am realistic.  I also know that perhaps my work will not create a paradigm shift yet at the same time, If I am good at what I do, it will make a significant difference for those I do engage.

I recently was reading a journal article on emotional contagion (yes, I can read other things besides this book, and yes, I read about emotional contagion in my spare time- lol, I just had a 13+ flight!).  If we help others and let them know that communication can help resolve issues (yes, I am still a new yorker, again, and I realize it's not ALL situations), that can have a substantial impact on their lives- so it does make a different.

One thing that helps be stay on this path is knowing I am not going at it alone- that's why we created ADRhub and the mindset of this book club- to engage your feelow peers and professional realizing we are not alone on this endless journey.

So, our band-aid work might not make the big, quick change in the entire planet, but it does reduced the scratches and scrapes for each person.  And I am ok with that.
