William Webster Named Chairman of CPR
New York, NY, February 14, 2011 – The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR Institute), a legal think-tank and alliance of global corporations, law firms, scholars, and public institutions dedicated to the principles of conflict prevention and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), announces the election of Honorable William H. Webster to Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Webster succeeds the previous CPR Chairman Honorable Charles B. Renfrew, former U.S. District Court Judge, Deputy Attorney General and Corporate Legal Officer for the Chevron Corporation.

Webster has led a long and illustrious career in public service. He was a United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri from 1960 to 1961, then a member of the Missouri Board of Law Examiners from 1964 to 1969. In 1970, Webster was appointed a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, and in 1973 he was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Five years later, President Carter appointed him as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Then in 1987, President Reagan named Webster the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He led the CIA until his retirement from public office in 1991. Judge Webster is the only American to serve as both Director of the CIA and Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Webster is a retired partner from the Washington, D.C. office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. He has been a member of CPR’s Board of Directors since 1992 and was named Vice Chairman of the Board in 1996.
