Powerful Non-Defensive Communication™: Cutting Edge Tools for ADR Professionals 

In this content-rich, interactive webinar, we’ll look briefly at the dynamics of defensiveness and pitfalls in current “best Practices” in ADR communication. The remainder of the session will focus on skills sets for: (a) asking disarming questions (b) giving the kind of feedback that’s essential to maintaining a safe environment for all parties, (c) Making clear statements which deal with attitudes and behaviors than can undermine the process, and (d) setting firm boundaries when needed. Using this model, you can prompt clients to drop their defenses, often instantly, and engage in a process that goes beyond compromise to deeper levels of resolution. The skills can be put to use immediately and are applicable in personal relationships as well.

Presenter Bio:

Sharon Strand Ellison, a pioneer in the field of eliminating defensiveness, is an international consultant, an award-winning speaker, and the author of Taking the War Out of Our Words. Sharon has been a speaker at international conferences, including the Association of Conflict Resolution; the American Bar Association, ADR Section; and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (Family Law) and the ADR Working Group for the federal government. She has also been a keynote speaker for the US Navy, International Mediation Conference; Kaiser Permanente, Ombuds/Mediators;Federation of Law Societies of Canada, National Family Law ADR Program; and The Centre for Dispute Resolution, 10th Anniversary Conference, London, England. In addition, her clients include, Hewlett Packard, Wells Fargo, the Women’s Global Health Imperative Conference; Los Angles Superior Court, United Way, The Kahneeta Tribe, and the Smithsonian.
