The primary purpose of the Ombudsperson position is provide impartial and confidential consultation to faculty, staff and trainees of the institution who have
concerns, disputes or complaints about an issue. The Ombuds will provide
the continuum of the Ombuds services to individual visitors to include
case handling, gathering information needed for assessment of the
situation, assist in interpreting institutional policies &
procedures, manage the case process, develop options including those
'outside the box', and provide necessary interventions such as meeting
facilitation, mediation and negotiation.

He/She will be able to design and conduct training programs for employees in dispute/conflict resolution, negotiation, civility, and
related topics. Working with other members of the Ombuds Office team,
the Ombudsperson will contribute to on-going education about the role of
the Office to the M D Anderson workforce.

This role will require travel to other MDACC campus locations.

EDUCATION 

Required: Master's degree or equivalent in Conflict Management or related field, with relevant training in dispute resolution, mediation and as an
Ombudsperson.

Preferred: Ph.D. in related field.


EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years experience as an organizational Ombudsperson, preferably in a large academic or biomedical organization.

Preferred: A seasoned practitioner with relevant training as an Ombudsperson,
dispute resolution expert and mediator. Demonstrated ability to
understand diverse cultures and backgrounds is critical. Practices
according to the International Ombudsman Association's Code of Ethics
and Standards of Practice.
