Transforming Conflict:  From Personal to Global Change

The Caux Scholars Program (CSP) brings together 20 students from around the world to learn about the moral and spiritual dimension of peacemaking and about the relationship between individual transformation and change in the world.  In one month students will:

• Examine the personal, religious, social and cultural factors which create and sustain conflict
• Build skills in analyzing conflict, conflict prevention, and post conflict development and trauma healing
• Explore peacebuilding through case studies, simulations, interactive learning and lectures

CSP is a total learning experience.  Scholars will begin by participating in the Caux Forum for Human Security (http://cauxforum.net/home).  They may be called upon to assist with an international group visiting Caux while also interacting with the many scholars and leaders at the Forum.  There will be a chance to present and hear from fellow scholars about “Conflict Where I Come From” and to experience interfaith dialogue under the direction of Dr. Mohammed Abu-Nimer, who has conducted workshops in Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Northern Ireland, Philippines (Mindanao), Sri Lanka, and the U.S.  Along with others at Mountain House, students will also have an opportunity to contribute by doing some practical work, such as gardening, cooking or administration.  This service is illustrative of the spirit of Caux, where value is placed on working and learning together with people from other nationalities, religions and generations making CSP a true total learning experience that could not be obtained in any other setting.

Program Requirements:

¨       Third- or fourth-year University or Graduate students, or recent graduates

¨       High academic achievement (transcripts required)

¨       Public or community service

¨       Demonstrated leadership ability

¨       Interest in the ethical dimensions of world affairs

¨       Openness to a multi-cultural learning experience

¨       Foreign language knowledge a plus

The cost for the course, which includes meals and housing, plus a one-day trip to Geneva, is $3,000 (In the past people who have not been able to pay this tuition have found creative ways to raise funds through places of worship, service organizations, and universities, etc.  We would be glad to advise you on this).
