JSA is seeking Independent Consultants to provide project assistance. As Senior Associate you will serve in the role of Project Leader that may include one or more projects varying in size and complexity in one or more areas to include transportation, land use planning, economic development and social sustainability. You will utilize alternative dispute resolution (ADR) techniques (fact finding, conflict analysis, facilitation, mediation, negotiation, consensus building, etc.) and engagement methodologies to prevent or resolve conflicts and develop agreement among government officials, developers, residents and other key stakeholders in the interest of achieving sustainable community development, environmental justice and smart growth. As a Project Leader and Senior Associate, you will model the core values of Justice and Sustainability Associates and be passionate in the desire to not only produce sustainable agreements concerning land use but agreements that are just for all stakeholders.

Fit:

Senior Associates must demonstrate extensive operational knowledge and the ability to use it to solve difficult problems. Senior Associates must consistently demonstrate most if not all of JSA core competencies. 

What you can expect to do in this role:

1. Effectively design, implement, document and evaluate small and large group processes that effectively and efficiently engage a diverse range of stakeholders (i.e. government agencies, policy makers and the public).

2. Manage multi-party policy dialogues, negotiations, strategy development projects.

3. Convene and engage stakeholders, assessments, design and deliver collaborative processes, help participants develop consensus documents, and conduct implementation activities.

4. Provides overall project management and strategic direction across a portfolio of projects.

5. Interfaces with clients, consultants and key stakeholders as required.

6. Assigns individual responsibility and identifies the appropriate resources as needed to ensure timely completion of the project.

7. Manages project budgets.

8. Develops project plans and provides regular updates to the clients and senior management team.

9. Manages mentors, motivates and inspires project staff with the goal of advancing them to the next level of the career path.

10. Participates in JSA business development activities and practices that identify emerging markets and clients within JSA's core practice areas.

11. Develops and sustains client relationships and industry connections.

12. Writes proposals and conducts and leads other business development activities.

13. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Requires Graduate degree (M.B.A., M.A., etc.), plus 9 to 10 years of experience and/or training in alternative dispute (ADR) techniques and practices; and 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional experience required to include:

• Evidence of excellent project management skills

• Experience in conflict resolution, land use mediation and facilitation

• Knowledge of land use and transportation planning and policy, housing and community development, economic and environmental impact analysis and community engagement

Also requires initiative and the use of independent judgment to evaluate situations and develop solutions. Must be comfortable working in a virtual environment and conducting/participating in meetings via video conference. Must be able to self-manage and adhere to project schedules and project budgets.

As an independent contractor you will be required to show proof of insurance. JSA requires proof of general liability and/or professional liability insurance coverage. You can anticipate providing up to 30 hours of support per month (not guaranteed).
