Then the Restorative Justice Practices Workshop is for you!

Restorative Justice (RJ) Practices are a way of thinking about and responding to those whom have been harmed by conflict and wrongdoing, and about those who have harmed others.

Participants Will Learn...

How to use RJ as a prevention process (Circles) for group/team-building, to establish group behavioral expectations, general discussions on challenging topics in order to gain a shared understanding, (examples may include conflict, ways to enhance our effectiveness, etc.), to encourage problem-solving for group conflict situations, and provide support for those that have been victimized.

How to use RJ as an intervention process (Conferences) that focuses on the harm and is victim-centered and encourages personal accountability from the offender.

Facilitators

Joan Packer is a member of the Northern Virginia Mediation Service Restorative Justice Program Leadership Team that serves Fairfax County Public Schools and Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. She is Restorative Justice facilitator and trainer. Joan is the former Conflict Resolution Specialist, teacher, and counselor for Fairfax County Public Schools.

Courtney Burkey is a Restorative Justice facilitator for Northern Virginia Mediation Service's Restorative Justice Project in partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools. Courtney is a peace and conflict resolution specialist who provides training and facilitation services around the country and abroad. She is a trained mediator in civil, workplace, community, and peer mediation; and a trained challenge course facilitator.
