  • Seeks out new mediation opportunities for first year law school students who cannot mediate in small claims court.  To that end, the Outreach and Case Coordinator has direct responsibility for ad hoc (out-of-court) programs and referrals, and assists with the management of new court programs.
  • Reaches out to existing referral sources, assesses their needs, and coordinates cases that follow.
  • Describes the mediation process to referral sources (clients) and parties; sends mediation materials to them; and screens cases for appropriateness.
  • Assigns cases to mediators; coordinates the location of mediations; confirms with the referral source and/or parties all details of the mediation; conducts follow-up interviews with clients and/or parties to assess the mediation; and schedules subsequent sessions as necessary.
  • In coordination with the Advanced Training Directors  has direct responsibility for advanced “trainings,” such as Harassment Prevention Order and Landlord-Tenant trainings.
  • Additionally, the Outreach and Case Coordinator participates in the interviewing and selection process for new members of HMP, and participates in ADR events and trainings in the wider community. The Outreach and Case Coordinator may organize trainings for HMP members to support/inform new initiatives.

  • Trained mediator, in accordance with M.G.L. chapter 233 section 23C;
  • Mediation experience

  • J.D. degree a plus but all applicants are welcome to apply;
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships with referral partners (clients) and students;
  • Ability to interact well with the public;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with HMP staff, Board of Directors, and members;
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative, and think constructively about program development issues;
  • Ability to plan and lead trainings;
  • Facility with Microsoft Office

This is a Less Than Half-Time (LHT), non-benefitted position.
