The New York International Arbitration Center, Inc. (“NYIAC”) is a not-for-profit corporation founded to promote and support the conduct of international arbitration and mediation in New York. The McLaughlin Fellow will assist the NYIAC Executive Director with NYIAC’s operations. Areas of responsibility include:
Hearings support and administration. Assist NYIAC guests during their hearings at the Center; answer requests for information from potential guests regarding the use of NYIAC space; maintain a calendar of booking requests and confirmed bookings; support guests’ catering needs.
Programming and research. Assist in planning for and hosting substantive programs at NYIAC, including continuing legal education programs; engage in legal research to support NYIAC research projects and publications.
University liaison. Develop relationships at local universities and support related NYIAC programming; supervise intern research projects; develop annual event targeted to LL.M. students at New York area universities.
Social media and website. Research and draft the NYIAC newsletter; update the NYIAC website as instructed by the NYIAC Executive Director; develop Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.
The successful candidate will be an LL.M. or J.D. student graduating in 2014 who is able to take up the fellowship by May 1, 2014. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and a positive, “can do” attitude, as well as excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. An aptitude for learning new software programs and web-based technologies is preferred, as is fluency in a second language.
