NMA’s 2015 Annual Conference

March 27, 2015, at Champions Run Golf Club in Omaha

8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Come to learn and network with your fellow mediators! This year's conference features Bernie Mayer. He’ll discuss his recently released book, The Conflict Paradox, which poses seven dilemmas that permeate our thinking about conflict, whether a family crisis, a corporate dispute, or a geopolitical negotiation. Disputants often understand their choices as mutually exclusive and ask themselves the following:

  • Competition or cooperation?
  • Optimism or realism?
  • Avoidance or engagement?
  • Principle or compromise?
  • Emotion or logic?
  • Neutrality or advocacy?
  • Autonomy or community?

Conference attendees can purchase The Conflict Paradox for $32, a 36% discount off the retail price. Purchased books will be available for pick-up at the conference.

Mr. Mayer's keynote will be followed with a presentation by Aaron Weiner on mindfulness practice. Mindfulness begins with an approach that categorizes “mind objects” as a sixth sense. Once thoughts, memories, and emotions are viewed as similar in nature to sights, sounds, and physical sensations, their cause and consequence can be studied by each individual for themselves. Essentially, mindfulness is a method of investigating how our own mind works so we can choose habits and approaches that make us better mediators and better people.
