NJAPM Annual Conference - The Mediation Challenge: Thriving Through Change

NJAPM Annual Conference, Saturday, November 13, 2010, Imperia in Somerset, NJ

On behalf of the NJAPM Board of Directors, Anju D. Jessani and Risa Kleiner, 2010 NJAPM conference co-chairs, are pleased to announce that the theme of this year's conference is The Mediation Challenge: Thriving Through Change.  The conference will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM at the Imperia in Somerset, New Jersey.  Please also see the attached conference brochure below for the complete agenda and roster of presenters, and the press release for this function.

Rick Steen will be the honored guest speaker.  Rick will share his experiences as the first ADR practitioner to hold the office of president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.



The featured speaker this year will be Dr. Tammy Lenski who mediates, coaches and educates through her New Hampshire firm.  She also serves on the core faculty of Woodbury College's graduate program in Mediation and Applied Conflict Studies. She's the author of Making Mediation Your Day Job: How to Market Your ADR Business Using Mediation Principles You Already Know. Carl Cangelosi, NJAPM President, will provide an update on the state of the organization, and Michelle Perone, Bob McDonnell and Hon. John Harper will provide an update on NJ Court mediation programs.

Following a networking lunch, there will be two sessions of three mediation workshops.

  • Session 1: Civil Mediation: Case Mangement, Start to Finish with Marv Schuldier and Nick Stevens, Show me the Money: Resolving Difficult Financial Issues in Divorce Mediation with Anju Jessani Anna-Maria Pittella, Ken Neumann and Pam Zivari; and Practical Problems in Construction Mediation and Strategies for Practice Growth with Tony Giuriceo and Pete Scarpato.
  • Session 2:  Mediation Tools for High Conflict Business and Employment Cases with Small Group Role Plays with Marla Moss; Divorce, Elder and Estate Mediation: Overcoming Legal and Psychological Barriers to Settlement with Elizabeth Dalena, Eileen Kohutis and Don Vanarelli.; Race, Ethnicity, Religion and Gender: Their Impact on Mediation with Ritu Chopra and Joe Dillon.

Hanan Isaacs will close the day with a session on ethics entitled The Uncooperative Client.

New Jersey MCLE including Ethics continuing education credits will be available for attorney practioners.  This conference also meets the continuing education requirements for mediators on the New Jersey Civil and Family court rosters.

As in past years, registration is $155 for members and $175 for non-members; we provide modified rates for students.  If you register early, there is a an additional discount.  Note that rates are higher for registering at the door.   Please make sure you have renewed your NJAPM registration to qualify for your member discount.  If you are not an NJAPM member and join NJAPM within 45 days of the conference, $20 of your registration fee for the conference will be applied towards your
membership dues.

And again, if you have not renewed your membership to NJAPM, please take five minutes to do that first, so that you may take the discounted member rate for the conference.  The simplest way is to register and pay online, but if that is not possible, you may register onine and send your payment to NJAPM, 1255 Whitehorse-Mercerville Road, Building B –Suite 514, Trenton, NJ 08619.  You can may also register and pay by mail by printing and completing either the registration stub from the brochure or the mail-in registration form, and mailing it with your payment to our Trenton address.

Interested in advertising in the conference book or seeking a display booth?  Please refer to page two of the attached brochure for our affordable rates and specifications.  You can pay for and submit your ad copy online or via postal mail with the mail-in registration form.  We are accepting advertisements for the conference book through 10/22/10.  The conference book is standard letter size 8.5 x 11 inches, and is printed in black and white.
