Salary Range: Payband 11 - $74,010 to $92,513 per annum, based on a 36.25 hour work week. The College also offers a complete range of fringe benefits. Ability to work flexible hours when required (evenings and Saturday).

Job Description  
Reporting to the Ombudsperson Review Committee, the Ombudsperson operates in an independent and impartial manner and is charged with fulfilling the mandate listed below.

Mandate - To investigate, at the request of any student, former student or applicant of Algonquin College, any complaint regarding the following aspects of student life:

Academic matters
Matters of College or Students' Association service to students
The operation of the Students' Association
Treatment received from other students or staff
Campus environmental matters
To serve as an information service for students by providing advice on policy and procedure, rights and responsibilities, and general guidance on where and to whom complaints and enquiries are appropriately directed.

The Ombudsperson works to promote fair and equitable processes for the resolution of differences. The Ombudsperson also has a responsibility to make periodic reports and to assist with student rights and responsibilities education.

The Ombudsperson maintains an office that is accessible to students in person, by phone and on-line.

Required Qualifications  
Minimum of 3 years college diploma or a bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 7 years’ experience working in a field related to the work of an ombudsperson, mediation or conflict resolution
Certification in Alternative Dispute Resolution techniques or other mediation training
Tact, diplomacy, perseverance, empathy and professionalism
Ability to create a welcoming, receptive environment which recognizes the diverse nature of the student of Algonquin College student population
A highly developed sense of integrity and fairness
Sound judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability in investigation and interviewing techniques
Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and Data Management)
Knowledge of post-secondary jurisprudence
Experience working with policies, procedures and appeal mechanisms
Ability to work independently
Knowledge of sound administrative and management practices
Knowledge of the post-secondary environment preferred
