The Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago is seeking a full-time executive director. The Center for Conflict Resolution is a not-for-profit corporation that has aided the Chicago community in dispute resolution since 1979. For more information about the position, please see the below for more:
The Executive Director will be a visionary thinker who develops and executes strategic initiatives in all areas of ADR; reviews and assesses current program opportunities and challenges; and makes recommendations to the Board on program improvements. He/ she develops and implement policies and procedures established in conjunction with the Board of Directors and committees of the Board. He/she manages CCR staff members and programs in accordance with established policies, procedures, state and federal laws and regulations.
The Executive Director provides leadership in the areas of:
- Staff relations and Human Resources management: hire, direct, develop and evaluate CCR staff. Ensure appropriate human resources policies, procedures and guidelines are in place to properly manage CCR employees.
- Finance and portfolio management: propose budget and investment strategies to the Board; manage finances according to Board adopted financial and investment policies and guidelines. Propose strategies to the Board to increase amount and sources of funding. Implement approved strategies.
- Board of Directors management and interface: prepare and plan all Board and committee meetings and materials; collaborate with the Board on staff
development, recruitment, orientation and evaluation. Cooperatively work to develop and implement goals and strategic plan.
- Public relations, fund-raising, community outreach and communications: build and improve internal (within CCR) and external relationships through effective communications, improved awareness and relationship building.
- Policy and planning: develop appropriate business policies and guidelines for the Board’s consideration; successfully execute CCR’s mission and strategic plan.
- Operations management: ensure CCR programs are operating effectively and efficiently, are consistent with CCR’s strategic vision and mission and that needed support/resources are available to fully execute CCR objectives.
This position reports to the President of the Board of Directors and has direct accountability to the entire Board of Directors which totals 22 individuals. The Executive Director has a staff of 13 employees and manages a budget of over $1 million.
The successful candidate will have a juris doctorate, or masters or doctorate degree in business, finance, management or conflict resolution, or equivalent professional experience. Additionally, he/she will possess:
- significant and successful experience in running a not-for-profit organization, including fund raising and development
- educational or solid work experience with alternate dispute resolution
- proven track record in managing and motivating staff
- significant budgetary management experience
- strong analytical and interpersonal skills, including willingness to solicit and consider other viewpoints
- the ability to flexibly manage priorities and troubleshoot
