Framing Issues

Zena Zumeta, who is a Mediator and Mediation Trainer, has released a new learning module providing tips for framing issues during mediation. While she uses a hypothetical casee of a divorcing couple as an example, her tips are useful for all contexts. Zena's Eight Rules of Framing is a 10 minute module that walks one through each rule

Deal with one issue at a time;
Ask it neutrally;
Make it mutual;
Be short and clear;
Make sure it's their issue, not yours;
Focus on the future;
Get to the how; and
Frame it, do not solve it.
