The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University invites applications for a Faculty Associate to join the law faculty as part of the Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program and to direct the Program’s new Foreclosure Mediation Unit.
The Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program serves as the academic home for the College of Law’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) programming, including the Lodestar Mediation Clinic, and has received the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ADR in Education Award. The Foreclosure Mediation Unit is a new component of the Program that will begin operations in the fall of 2011 providing mediation services between lenders and residential borrowers facing foreclosure. The Foreclosure Mediation Unit is being created with the assistance of a three-year grant awarded by the Office of the Attorney General of Arizona.
The position of Faculty Associate is a non-tenure track faculty appointment. The Faculty Associate will be appointed for a one-year term that is renewable annually for up to three years, beginning June 1, 2011. The Faculty Associate will play an integral role in the design and operations of the Foreclosure Mediation Unit and will participate in educational programming for the general public related to housing issues. Other responsibilities include:
•Establishing relationships with lenders and HUD housing counselors to promote and facilitate mediation. •Mediating disputes between lenders and borrowers. •Preparing reports to granting agency. •Addressing concerns posed by partnering agencies and institutions. •Ensuring an adequate supply of qualified mediators to meet the demand of mediation services. •Directing flow of mediation services.
The salary for this position will be up to $75,000 per year, depending on experience.
Candidates must possess a J.D. degree and be licensed to practice law. Demonstrated teaching ability and experience in related fields, such as mediation or real estate transactions, are preferred. Full time employment will begin June 1, 2011.
