Job Title: Facilitator - CENTER FOR RESTORATIVE APPROACHES
Department: Center for Restorative Approaches
Reports To: Coordinator
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full Time

Summary: The Center for Restorative Approaches (CRA) is an integral part of NHS’ Community Building Initiative. Restorative Approaches, also called Restorative Practices, are processes and strategies used in workplaces, schools, and the justice system to build, strengthen, and repair relationships.

The Facilitator will report to the Program Coordinator for Center for Restorative Approaches and is responsible for: direct services facilitating restorative practices, training and consulting in restorative practices, and the promotion of NHS’ mission throughout the community. The position requires both time in an office setting as well as travel throughout the service delivery area and requires some weekend as well as evening work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Training and Consulting:

1.Developing and delivering trainings in Restorative Practices as a member of a team
2.Facilitating Peer Learning between teachers in Grade Level Team meetings
3.Exercise discretion and independent judgment in coaching clients in restorative practices
4.Developing materials / activities for clients use
5.Co-facilitating and de-briefing classroom circles with teachers as part of ongoing training
6.Co-facilitating and de-briefing restorative circles as part of ongoing training

 

Facilitation:
The Facilitator’s responsibilities relate directly to the general operations of NHS’s Center for Restorative Approaches. It includes being responsible for organizing and convening Community Conferences / Circles as well as performing the necessary case follow-up. The Facilitator is responsible for the integrity of the process and maintaining neutrality. The Facilitator creates an environment that is conducive to the restorative process of building, strengthening and repairing relationships. The Facilitator is equally effective using verbal and written communication skills. The Facilitator works effectively with minimum direct supervision. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

General Duties:
•Participate in the development of CRA annual goals
•Participate in the development of grants
•Data entry of case and other data, development of reports
•Regular communication with the CRA program coordinator
•Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred
•Experience working with at-risk youth (ages 5-21 years) and their families is desired
•Experience working in school environments (elementary/high school) is desired, experience as a teacher is a plus
•Experience working in the criminal justice field is desired
•Experience facilitating team builders, dialogue circles, meetings with youth and adults
•Experience with public speaking and as a trainer
•Must have the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
•Must be able to professionally represent Neighborhood Housing Services
•Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency using word processing, data management, and spreadsheet software, etc, preferably Microsoft Office
•Ability to speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough and respectful manner
•Ability to establish healthy working relationships to achieve organizational and program goals
•Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
•Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
•Flexibility
•Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet deadlines
•Dedication to restorative processes and philosophy
•Model and practice restorative practices (circles, affective communication, conflict resolution, meeting facilitation, problem-solving, restorative approach) in interactions with youth, program partners, and fellow staff.
•Willingness to continually learn, improve, and accept feedback in becoming more “restorative”

 

Work Schedule:
•Willingness to work evenings, Saturdays and maintain a flexible work schedule.
