Engaging in Conflicts: Experiences from the World of Hostage and Crisis Negotiation

Jeff Thompson, NYPD detective, hostage negotiator, and certified international mediator, shared his skills used by hostage and crisis negotiators in a forum at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Sponsored by the Werner Institute on September 17th, 2015 called Engaging in Conflict Experiences from the World of Hostage and Crisis Negotiation. Jeff reflected on what these negotiation experts have done effectively can allow you to apply it to situations you are involved in ranging from misunderstandings, business/work disputes, and personal conflicts. He shared specific skills that crisis negotiators have used to de-escalate tense situations, demonstrate empathy, build rapport and trust, and be able to successfully influence others.
