ELDER MEDIATION TRAINING
ADVANCED TRAINING FOR EXPERIENCED MEDIATORS

Cost: $450 (no CLE); $500 (with 19.5 CLE; 18.5 substantive & 1 ethics)
This intensive three-day training program will orient experienced mediators to the kinds of issues associated with aging and the special practice issues that arise when working with people who are older and their families and care givers. The training format will combine lecture, video analysis, role-play practice and discussion. Topics will include:

· Sensitivity to the Aging Process
· Aging Biases and the Mediation Process
· Intake Skills
· Community Resources
· Intergenerational Family Dynamics
· Capacity Issues and Accommodations Screening for Elder Abuse
· Use of Support Persons and Advocates Facilitating Multi-Party Family Decision- Making

TRAINERS: Kathryn Mariani, M.A.R. is a trainer and consultant specializing in health care and aging
TRAINERS:
Kathryn Mariani, M.A.R. is a trainer and consultant specializing in health care and aging who has written and presented nationally on elder mediation ethics and practice. She chaired the 2007 First National Symposium on Ethical Standards for Elder Mediation and helped develop core elder mediation training objectives for the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR). She serves on the ACR Edler Mediation Ethics Committee.
Barbara Foxman L.S.C.W. is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and a mediator specializing in elder mediation, family divorce and EEPC matters. Foxman has presented workshops on Values and Ethics for Social Workers in health care and with the elderly, conflict resolution, managing workplace violcence, and Loss, bereavement and emotions in mediation.
Experts in Elder Issues will also present:
Michele Mathes, JD, a trained mediator and Director of Education and Research Programs at the Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE) in Philadelphia and an Associate Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. Mathes has published, presented and trained nationally on ethical issues in health care and aging.
Keelin Barry, Esq. an experienced mediator and elder law attorney in private practice. She is Co-Chair of the Elder Law Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association and Co-Chair of the Guardianship Manual Committee for the Philadelphia Orphan’s Court.
