Chris Hoff- Stories can sometimes have a life of their own. Stories can take people down paths that they would rather not go, often leading to conflict in the workplace. As someone who practices a narrative approach to conflict resolution, it’s my job to take stories seriously.
In John Winslade and Gerald Monk’s wonderful book on Narrative Mediation they make the case that the traditional approach to conflict resolution rushes too quickly to find what is factual, objective, and patterned rather than staying with the stories that have brought the conflict to the point of escalation.
