Flexing Facebook's Civic Muscles: Public Engagement in the Age of Social Media
Presented by, Susanna Haas Lyons
Flexing Facebook’s Civic Muscles is a presentation that looks at the use of social media for public engagement. Online public participation is a young field however, and little is known about the benefits or limitations of these approaches. This presentation will share methods and results of a recent project I ran in partnership with the City of Vancouver, Canada, to engage hundreds of residents and commuters in a July 2011 Facebook conversation about the City of Vancouver’s Transportation Plan.
